Disk type antifreeze tester allows the coolant to be checked either hot or cold.
By counting the number of disks that float the degree of protection can be read from the scale on the body of the tool.
The large size of this tool makes it easy to read, and the plastic barrel is almost unbreakable in normal use.

Propylene Glycol is a new antifreeze now used by many car manufacturers
This cannot be correctly tested using the traditional testers.
